Ice Boof in Montana

Well it’s the middle of winter here in Missoula, Montana and we are having one of the best snow years in quite some time. I’m just getting home from the mountain right now actually. The Snowboarding is epic. However, the paddling is sick also. This is the exact reason I live in Montana.
We have a man made wave/hole in the middle of town called“Brennan’s wave”, which is shred-able 365 days a year. The Clark Fork River is divided into 3 channels with Brennan’s located in the far river right channel. The river left channels are frozen solid forcing all the water into the Brennan’s channel. This makes the wave a sick, spring like level. This year we’ve also created the ultimate put-in. We built a huge ice jump or ice “boof”. Check out the photos! Launching this kicker is one of the more wicked things; I’ve ever done in my kayak. Most locals think we’re nuts, however, they think the jump is cool. The boof has become quite the piece of art in downtown Missoula. So that’s how we do things in Montana, shred the mountain in the morning till 1:30 and then shred the wave from 3:30 till like 6:00. Anyway hope everyone is enjoying there winter as much as we are in Montana.
